Sliquid H2O is the original formula in the Sliquid Naturals range and the one most people start with. Purified water is the base and plant cellulose from cotton does the thickening, which is the substitution the whole product is built around. Most water-based lubricants use glycerin to get that slippery feel. This one does not use it at all.

Six ingredients in total: purified water, plant cellulose, cyamopsis (guar gum), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid. That is the shortest list in the Sliquid range, which is why it is the sensible starting point if you have reacted to products before and do not yet know which ingredient did it.

pH 4.0 to 4.4, free from glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG and sulphates, with no fragrance, flavour or colour. Vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic. No alcohol and no botanicals.

Water-soluble with no silicone in it, so it works with every toy material including silicone, and with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms. From Blossom Pelvic Health, shipped discreetly across Australia. 125ml and 255ml.

It suits you if you want the fewest possible ingredients, if you have reacted to a lubricant before and are working out what to avoid, or if you simply want something light that does not announce itself.

It is probably not the one if you want cushion. This is the thinnest formula in the range and it absorbs faster than the thick ones. If you find yourself reapplying more than you would like, Sliquid Sassy is the same water base with more body.

It is also not the one if you specifically want aloe or organic botanicals. Sliquid Organics Natural swaps the water base for organic aloe and adds four botanical extracts.

Start with a coin-sized amount and add more if you want it. More is not automatically better with lubricant, and too much can dull sensation as easily as too little causes friction. Apply to yourself, to your partner, or generously along a toy or device before insertion. Because it is water-soluble it will absorb over time, which is normal. Rather than reaching for the bottle again, a few drops of water will bring it back. It rinses off with warm water, leaves no film and will not stain.

Size: 125ml and 255ml.

Why a glycerin free water based lubricant is worth looking for

Most water-based lubricant gets its slip from glycerin. This one gets it from cotton.

Glycerin is a sugar alcohol. It is cheap, it works, and it is in the majority of lubricants on a chemist shelf. Sliquid built H2O around leaving it out and using plant cellulose instead, and that single substitution is the reason the product exists.

What the short list actually buys you.

Fewer variables. Six ingredients means six things to rule out rather than twenty. If a product has bothered you before and you do not know which ingredient did it, starting from the shortest list is the sensible order to do this in.

Nothing to wash out. No fragrance, no flavour, no colour and no botanical extracts. Nothing in here is there to make the product smell or taste like something.

It behaves predictably. Light, fluid, absorbs over time, comes back with a few drops of water. It will not surprise you, which is the point of a plain formula.

If you want more body than this, Sliquid Sassy is the same water base with extra plant cellulose. If you want aloe and botanicals instead of plain water, Sliquid Organics Natural is the one to look at.

Which Sliquid is right for you?

Seven formulas, three real differences: what it's built on, how thick it is, and whether it's safe with your toys. Every figure here is Sliquid's own published data. Silk and Organics Silk both contain silicone, so neither is one to use with silicone toys. Any of the water-based formulas is.

Sliquid H2O water-based lubricant, your questions answered

Everything you need to know about Sliquid H2O: the six ingredients, what glycerin free and pH balanced actually mean, using it with toys and dilators, and how it compares to the rest of the Sliquid range.

Sliquid H2O is a water-based personal lubricant made from six ingredients: purified water, plant cellulose derived from cotton, cyamopsis (guar gum), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid. That is the whole list.

What separates it from most water-based lubricants is the absence of glycerin. Glycerin is a sugar alcohol used in the majority of water-based formulas because it is cheap and it produces a slippery feel. Sliquid use plant cellulose instead. Sliquid say the company started because its founder could not find a lubricant that did not irritate his wife, who reacted to glycerin, and the formula was built around what to leave out rather than what to put in.

The practical result is a light, fluid lubricant that absorbs over time and comes back with a few drops of water rather than needing reapplication. It sits at pH 4.0 to 4.4, it is vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic, and it is unfragranced, unflavoured and uncoloured. It is also the cheapest product in the Sliquid range, which is part of why it is the one most people try first.

It is the one in the range with the fewest things in it, which is usually what people mean when they ask this. Six ingredients, no glycerin, no parabens, no propylene glycol, no sulphates, no fragrance and no flavouring. There are no botanical extracts and no alcohol either, both of which are in the Organics formulas.

That matters for a specific reason. If you have reacted to a lubricant before and do not know which ingredient caused it, the useful move is to start from the shortest list and add complexity only if you want something the plain formula does not give you. H2O is that starting point. Sliquid describe it as hypoallergenic.

If you have a known sensitivity to guar gum specifically, that is the one ingredient here worth checking before you buy, and a patch test on the inside of your forearm is a reasonable precaution. Reactions to guar are uncommon, but it is the only plant-derived component in the formula.

Yes to all three, and the reason is worth understanding rather than just taking on trust. There is no silicone anywhere in this formula. Silicone-based and hybrid lubricants can degrade the surface of silicone devices over time, leaving them tacky and harder to clean properly. A pure water-based formula like H2O cannot do that, so it is safe with silicone dilators, pelvic wands, trainers and toys indefinitely.

Glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic and ceramic are all fine as well.

The practical note for device work is texture. H2O is the lightest formula Sliquid make, which means it spreads easily and feels close to nothing, but it also absorbs faster than the thicker ones. For a longer session you may find yourself topping up. A few drops of water reactivate what is already there, which is less disruptive than stopping to reapply. If you would rather it stayed put on the device from the start, a thicker formula suits that job better.

Afterwards, warm water and a mild unscented cleanser take it off completely.

pH measures how acidic or alkaline something is on a scale from 0 to 14, where 7 is neutral. Healthy vaginal pH sits between roughly 3.8 and 4.5, which is moderately acidic. That acidity is maintained by lactobacilli and it is part of how the body keeps its own balance.

Sliquid H2O is formulated between pH 4.0 and 4.4, which puts it inside that range. A lubricant well outside it will temporarily shift the local pH, and if you are using lubricant often, whether for intimacy, device work or both, that is worth avoiding. It is one of the few genuinely measurable things you can check about a lubricant rather than taking marketing on faith.

Two honest limits on this. First, pH is one property among several and no single number tells you whether a product will suit you. Second, plenty of products claim to be pH balanced without publishing a figure. Sliquid publish a range for every product they make, which is what makes the claim checkable here. If a brand will not tell you the number, the claim is not worth much.

Six: purified water, plant cellulose (from cotton), cyamopsis (guar gum), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid.

What each one is doing: water is the base. Plant cellulose is the thickener and the reason the product feels slippery without glycerin. Guar gum adds body and smooths the texture. Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate are food-grade preservatives that keep it stable once opened. Citric acid holds the pH at 4.0 to 4.4.

What is not in it is the more useful list. No glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG, sulphates, sorbitol or gluten. No fragrance, no flavouring, no artificial colour. No alcohol. No botanical extracts. Vegan and cruelty-free.

You will sometimes see this product listed with five ingredients. That count leaves out sodium benzoate. Sliquid publish six.

Start with about a coin-sized amount and adjust from there. That is enough for most people most of the time, and it is easier to add than to take away.

For intimacy, apply to the vulva and vaginal opening, and to your partner. For dilator or pelvic wand work, coat the device generously and put a small amount at the entrance before insertion. H2O is fluid enough to spread easily without clumping, which is part of why it suits device work.

More is not automatically better. Too much lubricant can dull sensation, and dulled sensation is a problem if you are using a device and want to be able to feel what you are doing and adjust. Too little causes friction on tissue that does not need it. Somewhere in between is the answer and it is personal.

Because it is water-based it will absorb over time. That is the formula working, not failing. A few drops of water will bring back what is already there. If you are reapplying more often than feels reasonable, that is a signal you might want a thicker formula rather than more of this one.

All three are made by Sliquid, all three are glycerin and paraben free, all three are pH balanced and all three are safe with every condom and toy material. The differences are base, body and ingredient count.

H2O is purified water with six ingredients. It is the lightest and the cheapest, and it is the shortest ingredient list in the range.

Sliquid Sassy is the same water base thickened further with extra plant cellulose. Also six ingredients. It is the one to choose if you want cushion rather than lightness, or if you are reapplying H2O more often than you would like.

Sliquid Organics Natural swaps the water base for organic aloe vera juice and adds four organic botanical extracts, which takes it to thirteen ingredients and introduces a small amount of alcohol. It is the one to choose if you want the aloe base and the organic sourcing.

If you are unsure, H2O is the sensible first purchase. It tells you what a plain formula feels like, and everything else in the range is a deliberate step away from that in one direction or another.

Yes. Sliquid state that all of their lubricants are compatible with all condoms, which covers latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane. The two things that damage latex are oil and silicone, and this formula contains neither.

It is also safe with silicone devices for the same reason, which is not true of silicone or hybrid lubricants. If you use both condoms and silicone toys, a pure water-based formula removes the question entirely.

One practical note that is about technique rather than compatibility: do not get lubricant on your fingers before you unroll a condom, because a slippery grip makes the roll harder to control. Apply once it is on, or to yourself beforehand.
