Sliquid Organics Silk is the hybrid on an organic aloe base. Organic aloe vera juice is the first ingredient, ahead of water, and dimethicone, a medical-grade silicone, is blended in to make it last. It is the organic counterpart to Sliquid Silk, which starts from plain water instead.

The same four organic botanical extracts as the rest of the Organics line go in on top: flax, hibiscus, green tea and sunflower seed. Sliquid describe the range as made with organic ingredients and botanically infused. The texture is creamy, closer to a light lotion than a gel, and it outlasts any of the water-based formulas because the silicone does not absorb.

Because there is silicone in it, this is not the one for silicone toys, dilators, wands or trainers. Silicone can bond to silicone over time and leave the surface tacky. Sliquid Organics Natural is the same aloe base without the silicone, and it is safe with every device material.

pH 4.1 to 4.4. Free from glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG and sulphates, with no fragrance, flavour or colour. Vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic. Contains a small amount of alcohol. Works with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms. From Blossom Pelvic Health, shipped discreetly across Australia. 125ml and 255ml.

It suits you if you want the organic aloe base and the botanicals but find a water-soluble formula runs out faster than you would like. This is the one product in the range that gives you both.

It is not the one if your toys or devices are silicone. That is the hard limit and it is worth being blunt about rather than hedging. Sliquid Organics Natural is the same aloe base without the silicone and is safe with everything.

It is also not the one if you want a short ingredient list or no alcohol. This is the longest list in the range and it contains a small amount of alcohol, which is worth knowing if your skin reacts easily.

A little goes further than you expect, so start smaller than you would with a water-based lube. Apply to yourself, to your partner, or to a non-silicone device. Because the silicone sits on the surface rather than absorbing, it keeps working for longer. Adding water will not reactivate it the way it does with a water-based formula, so if you want more, add more product. It rinses off skin with warm water and does not need soap.

Why an aloe based hybrid lubricant lasts longer

Aloe and water both absorb. Silicone does not. This is the one product in the range that uses both.

Organic aloe vera juice is the first ingredient, which is what makes this an Organics formula rather than a Naturals one. Dimethicone, a medical-grade silicone, is blended into it. The aloe and the botanicals give you the organic base. The silicone is why you stop to reapply less often.

What you gain, and what you give up.

You gain duration on an organic base. Every other organic formula in the range is water-soluble and absorbs over time. This one keeps working after the aloe part has gone.

You keep the botanicals. The same four organic extracts as the rest of the Organics line: flax, hibiscus, green tea and sunflower seed.

You give up silicone toys. Silicone lubricant and silicone devices can bond over time, leaving a tacky surface. If your dilators, wands or toys are silicone, use

Sliquid Organics Natural with them instead. It is the same aloe base without the silicone.

Which Sliquid is right for you?

Seven formulas, three real differences: what it's built on, how thick it is, and whether it's safe with your toys. Every figure here is Sliquid's own published data. Silk and Organics Silk both contain silicone, so neither is one to use with silicone toys. Any of the water-based formulas is.

Sliquid Organics Silk hybrid lubricant, your questions answered

Everything you need to know about Sliquid Organics Silk: how the aloe and silicone hybrid works, why it is not for silicone toys, the full ingredient list, and how it compares to Sliquid Silk and Sliquid Organics Natural.

Both are hybrids and both use dimethicone, a medical-grade silicone, to make them last longer than a water-soluble formula. The difference is what they are built on.

Sliquid Silk starts from purified water and plant cellulose, the same base as Sliquid H2O. Organics Silk starts from organic aloe vera juice, the same base as Sliquid Organics Natural, and carries the four organic botanical extracts that come with the Organics line: flax, hibiscus, green tea and sunflower seed.

In use they feel close. Both are creamy rather than gel-like, both outlast the water-based formulas, and both rinse off with warm water rather than needing soap. The choice comes down to whether the organic aloe base and the botanicals matter to you enough to pay a little more and accept a longer ingredient list.

One practical difference worth naming: Organics Silk contains a small amount of alcohol and Sliquid Silk does not. If your skin reacts easily, that may decide it.

No. Use an aloe-based or water-based lubricant with silicone devices instead.

This is the one real limitation and it is better stated plainly than hedged. Silicone lubricant and silicone devices can bond over time. The surface goes tacky, then slightly porous, and once that has happened it is harder to clean properly and the device is finished. Organics Silk contains dimethicone, so it sits on the wrong side of that line for silicone dilators, pelvic wands, trainers and toys.

Sliquid's own wording on this product is narrower than on the rest of the range, and that narrowness is the reason we do not recommend it here. Where a manufacturer says some, we would rather give you a clear no than a maybe you have to interpret.

Sliquid Organics Natural is the same organic aloe base without the silicone and is safe with every device material. Keep Organics Silk for skin, glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic and ceramic.

Longer than any of the water-soluble formulas in the range, and that is the main reason to choose it.

The mechanism is straightforward. Aloe and water both absorb into tissue over time, which is why a water-soluble lubricant fades during a longer session. Dimethicone does not absorb. It stays on the surface, so when the aloe part of the formula has gone the silicone part is still working.

There is a trade-off in how you top it up. With an aloe or water formula, a few drops of water reactivate what is already there. That does not work here, because the part still doing the job is the silicone. If you want more, add more product rather than more water.

Cleanup stays easy, which is the point of a hybrid rather than a full silicone lubricant. Warm water is enough on skin. A pure silicone product usually needs soap and leaves a slick on fabric.

Organic aloe barbadensis decolorized leaf juice (reconstituted), purified water, polysorbate 20, dimethicone, plant cellulose, organic agar agar, isopropyl palmitate, citric acid, cetearyl ethylhexanoate, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, alcohol, organic flax extract, organic hibiscus extract, organic green tea extract and organic sunflower seed extract.

What they do: the aloe juice is the base and the carrier, listed ahead of water. Dimethicone is the silicone and the reason it lasts. Polysorbate 20 is the emulsifier that keeps the aloe and the silicone mixed rather than separating in the bottle. Isopropyl palmitate and cetearyl ethylhexanoate are the emollient esters that give it the creamy texture. Plant cellulose and agar agar thicken it. Citric acid sets the pH, and sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate are food-grade preservatives. The four botanical extracts are the organic layer.

What is not in it: glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG, sulphates, sorbitol, gluten, fragrance, flavouring and artificial colour. Vegan and cruelty-free.

The one people miss on a quick read is the alcohol, so it is worth naming plainly.

Yes. It works with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms.

The thing that damages latex is oil, not silicone. Coconut oil, massage oil and anything else oil-based can weaken a latex condom within minutes. Silicone does not do that, and neither does aloe or water, so an aloe and silicone hybrid is condom-safe.

A longer-lasting lubricant helps with condoms for a practical reason as well. Friction is what causes condoms to fail, and a formula that has absorbed away partway through leaves you with friction you did not have at the start. This one keeps working.

Apply to the outside of the condom once it is on, and reapply externally if you want more. Avoid getting it on your fingers before you unroll one, because a slippery grip makes the roll harder to control.

It leaves out the ingredients people most often react to: glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, sulphates and fragrance. Sliquid describe it as hypoallergenic, and the pH sits at 4.1 to 4.4.

The dimethicone is what people usually ask about, and it is one of the less reactive things you could put on skin. It is the same ingredient used in barrier creams and scar gels, and it works by sitting on the surface rather than soaking in.

Three honest notes, because this is the longest ingredient list in the range. It contains a small amount of alcohol. The emollient esters are derived from palm oil, which matters to some people for sourcing reasons rather than safety ones. And there are four botanical extracts in here, which are well tolerated generally but are worth reading through if you have a known plant allergy.

If you have reacted to lubricants before and do not know which ingredient did it, this is a harder place to start than a six-ingredient formula. Sliquid H2O is the simpler starting point for working that out.

Organic aloe vera juice is the first ingredient on the label, ahead of purified water, and four of the remaining ingredients are organic botanical extracts: flax, hibiscus, green tea and sunflower seed. That is what puts this product in Sliquid's Organics line rather than its Naturals line.

On what "organic" means here, it is worth being precise. Sliquid describe the range as made with organic ingredients and botanically infused with organic extracts. They do not publish a third-party organic certification for the finished product, and we have not seen one, so we describe it as made with organic ingredients rather than certified organic. In Australia "certified organic" carries a specific substantiation burden and we would rather be accurate than impressive.

It is also worth being clear that the silicone component is not organic and could not be. Dimethicone is a synthetic polymer. This is an organic aloe base with a synthetic silicone in it, which is a reasonable trade if what you want is duration, and not the right product if what you want is an entirely plant-derived formula. Sliquid Organics Natural is that one.

Yes, and it is one of the things it does better than a water-soluble formula. Aloe and water absorb too quickly to be practical for a massage. This keeps working, and the emollient esters give it a spread closer to a light lotion than to a gel.

It also does not leave the heavy residue a pure oil or silicone massage product does, so you can go from massage to intimacy without stopping to wash anything off, and it is still condom-safe.

Two things to watch. Do not mix it with an oil-based massage product if condoms are going to be involved, because oil is what damages latex and once it is on skin it does not matter which bottle it came from. And keep it off silicone toys, the same as always.

It has no fragrance, so it will not compete with anything or irritate sensitive skin if it migrates.
