Sliquid Satin is the one in the range made for the days in between as well as the moment itself. Sliquid print "natural intimate moisturizer" on the bottle, and that is the honest description of it: a water-based formula you can use during intimacy like any other lubricant, or on its own as part of a daily routine.

Purified water is the base, with plant cellulose and carrageenan, a thickener drawn from red seaweed, doing the work of holding moisture against the skin for longer than a standard water formula manages. Organic aloe and vitamin E come in further down the list. Nine ingredients in total.

pH 4.1 to 4.4. Free from glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG and sulphates, with no fragrance, flavour or colour. Vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic. No alcohol.

Water-soluble with no silicone in it, so it works with every toy material including silicone, and with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms. From Blossom Pelvic Health, shipped discreetly across Australia. 125ml.

For persistent comfort concerns, a GP or physio can talk through the wider set of options.

It suits you if you want one product that works during intimacy and also has a place in a daily routine, or if a standard water-based lubricant absorbs faster than you would like and you would rather have more body without going thick.

It is probably not the one if you only want something for use in the moment. Sliquid H2O is lighter, simpler and cheaper for that job.

It is also not the one if you want an aloe base. Aloe is in here, but it is fourth on the list behind water, plant cellulose and carrageenan. Sliquid Organics Natural is the one built on aloe.

A few drops go a long way, so start with less than you think. For use during intimacy, apply to yourself, your partner, or the device. For daily use, apply a small amount externally at whatever point suits your routine, after a shower or before bed. It does not need an applicator. Water-soluble formulas absorb over time, so a few drops of water will bring it back rather than needing a full reapplication. It rinses off with warm water, leaves no film and will not stain.

Size: 125ml.

Base: purified water. Aloe is in the formula but sits fourth on the list, behind water, plant cellulose and carrageenan.

Texture: light with more body than a plain water formula. Not a gel.

pH: 4.1 to 4.4, inside the normal vaginal range of roughly 3.8 to 4.5.

Carrageenan: a thickener drawn from red seaweed. It is what holds the formula against skin for longer.

Condoms: works with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane.

Toys and devices: no silicone in the formula, so it is safe with silicone as well as glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic and ceramic.

Free from: glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG, sulphates, sorbitol, gluten, fragrance, flavouring and artificial colour. No alcohol. Vegan and cruelty-free.

Full ingredients: purified water, plant cellulose (from cotton), carrageenan, organic aloe barbadensis decolorized leaf juice (reconstituted), natural tocopherols (vitamin E), organic cyamopsis (guar gum), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid. Nine in total.

What an intimate moisturiser does differently

Most lubricant is made for the moment. Satin is made for the days in between as well.

The difference is carrageenan, a thickener drawn from red seaweed. It holds the formula against skin rather than letting it absorb straight away, which is why Sliquid describe this one as a moisturiser and the rest of the range as lubricants. Used during intimacy it behaves like any other water-based lube, just one with more staying power. Used on its own it keeps intimate skin feeling soft and comfortable.

Three things worth knowing.

It is water-based, not aloe-based. Aloe is in here, but fourth on the list behind water, plant cellulose and carrageenan. If you specifically want an aloe base, that is a different product.

It does not need an applicator. A few drops applied externally with clean fingers is the whole routine.

It is safe with everything. No silicone in the formula, so silicone toys, dilators and wands are all fine, as are glass, steel, plastic and ceramic.

If you only want something for use in the moment, Sliquid H2O is the lighter and simpler option.

Which Sliquid is right for you?

Seven formulas, three real differences: what it's built on, how thick it is, and whether it's safe with your toys. Every figure here is Sliquid's own published data. Silk and Organics Silk both contain silicone, so neither is one to use with silicone toys. Any of the water-based formulas is.

Sliquid Satin intimate moisturiser, your questions answered

Everything you need to know about Sliquid Satin: what makes it a moisturiser rather than only a lubricant, what carrageenan is doing in it, the full ingredient list, and how it compares to Sliquid H2O.

Sliquid Satin is a water-based formula that Sliquid describe on the bottle as a natural intimate moisturiser rather than simply a lubricant. In practice it does both jobs. Used during intimacy or with a device it behaves like a water-based lubricant. Used on its own it is made to keep intimate skin feeling soft and comfortable.

The ingredient doing that work is carrageenan, a thickener drawn from red seaweed. A plain water-based lubricant absorbs and evaporates fairly quickly, which is fine for what it is for. Carrageenan holds the formula against skin for longer, which is what makes daily use worth bothering with.

It is worth being accurate about the base. This is a water-based formula. Purified water is first on the list, then plant cellulose, then carrageenan, then organic aloe. Aloe is in here and it contributes, but this is not an aloe-based product the way Sliquid Organics Natural is.

Nine ingredients, no glycerin, no parabens, no fragrance, no alcohol. pH 4.1 to 4.4. Vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic.

Yes, and that is what separates it from the rest of the range. Most lubricants are made for use in the moment. This one is formulated so that regular use makes sense.

The routine is as simple as it sounds. A small amount applied externally with clean fingers, at whatever point fits your day, after a shower or before bed. You do not need an applicator and you do not need to use it internally unless you want to. A few drops is genuinely enough.

The formula is gentle enough for repeated use. There is no glycerin, no fragrance, no alcohol and no preservative system that builds up on skin, and the pH sits inside the normal vaginal range rather than outside it, which matters more when a product is going on daily than when it goes on occasionally.

If you are also using something prescribed by your doctor, apply them at different times of day so each one has a chance to absorb, and check with whoever prescribed it if you are unsure.

Both are water-based, both are glycerin free and paraben free, both are pH balanced, and both are safe with every condom and toy material. The difference is what they are made to do.

H2O is a lubricant, six ingredients, as light as they come. It gives you immediate slip and it absorbs fairly quickly, which is exactly right for use during intimacy or a dilator session. It is also the cheapest thing in the range.

Satin has nine ingredients and adds carrageenan and aloe. It has more body than H2O without being a gel, and it stays put for longer, which is what makes it usable as a daily product rather than only an in-the-moment one.

The practical way to choose: if you want something for intimacy and device work and nothing else, H2O does that job well and costs less. If you want one product that covers both the moment and the daily routine, Satin is the one made for it. Plenty of people keep both, using Satin day to day and H2O for dilator work where a thinner formula is easier.

Carrageenan is a polysaccharide extracted from red seaweed. In Sliquid Satin it is a thickener and a moisture-retaining agent, and it is the reason this formula stays against skin longer than a plain water-based one. You will also find it in food, where it does the same job in things like dairy alternatives.

On safety, the useful distinction is between the carrageenan used in products like this and a degraded form called poligeenan. They are not the same material. Poligeenan is produced by treating carrageenan with acid at high temperature, it is not used in food or personal care, and the health concerns you may have read about relate to it rather than to the undegraded carrageenan in this bottle.

For topical use, carrageenan is well tolerated. Reactions to it are uncommon. The one group who should check first is anyone with a known seaweed or iodine allergy, and that is a conversation to have with your GP rather than something to work out from a product page.

Sliquid do not make any claim for carrageenan beyond what it does to the texture, and neither do we.

Yes to all three. There is no silicone anywhere in this formula, so it will not affect silicone dilators, pelvic wands, trainers or toys, and glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic and ceramic are all fine as well.

The practical note for device work is that Satin has slightly more body than a plain water formula, so it coats a device and stays on it rather than running down before you get there. That means fewer stops to reapply during a session. If it does start to feel dry, a few drops of water will bring back what is already on the device rather than needing a fresh application.

There is a small convenience in using the same product for both jobs. If Satin is already what you use day to day, using it for device work too means you are not introducing a second ingredient list, which is one fewer variable if something ever does irritate.

Warm water and a mild unscented cleanser take it off skin and devices afterwards. It leaves no film.

Nine: purified water, plant cellulose (from cotton), carrageenan, organic aloe barbadensis decolorized leaf juice (reconstituted), natural tocopherols (vitamin E), organic cyamopsis (guar gum), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid.

What they do: water is the base. Plant cellulose and guar gum are plant-derived thickeners. Carrageenan, from red seaweed, is the ingredient that holds the formula against skin and the main thing separating this from a standard lubricant. Organic aloe and vitamin E are conditioning ingredients. Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate are food-grade preservatives, and citric acid sets the pH at 4.1 to 4.4.

Note the order. Water first, aloe fourth. You will sometimes see this product described as aloe-based. That is not accurate, and Sliquid Organics Natural is the product in the range that genuinely is.

What is not in it: glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, DEA, PEG, sulphates, sorbitol, gluten, fragrance, flavouring, artificial colour and alcohol. Vegan and cruelty-free.

It is one of the better options in the range for that, and the reason is what has been left out. No glycerin, no parabens, no propylene glycol, no sulphates, no fragrance and no flavouring. It is also one of only two formulas in the Sliquid range with no alcohol in it at all, which matters if alcohol is something your skin notices.

Sliquid describe it as hypoallergenic, and the pH sits at 4.1 to 4.4 rather than outside the normal range, which is worth more on a product designed for regular use than on one used occasionally.

Two things to check before you buy. Carrageenan is seaweed-derived, so if you have a known seaweed or iodine allergy, read the list first. And there is aloe in here, which is well tolerated by most people but is a plant ingredient like any other.

If you want the shortest possible list while you work out what suits you, Sliquid H2O has six ingredients, no aloe, no carrageenan and no vitamin E.

Yes. Sliquid state that all of their lubricants are compatible with all condoms, which covers latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane. There is no oil and no silicone in this formula, and those are the two things that degrade latex.

The same reasoning makes it safe with silicone devices, which is not true of silicone or hybrid lubricants. If you use both condoms and silicone toys, a pure water-based formula takes the question off the table entirely.

One practical note about technique rather than compatibility: avoid getting lubricant on your fingers before you unroll a condom, because a slippery grip makes the roll harder to control. Apply once it is on, or to yourself beforehand.
