Sliquid Silk is a hybrid: a water base with a small amount of dimethicone, which is a medical-grade silicone, blended into it. The water part gives it the easy cleanup and the pH control. The silicone part is why it lasts longer than a water-based lube before you need to top it up.

It starts from the same purified water and plant cellulose base as Sliquid H2O, then adds dimethicone and two emollient esters. Nine ingredients in total. The result is creamier than a plain water formula and noticeably more durable.

One thing to be clear about before you buy: because there is silicone in it, this is not the one for silicone toys, dilators, wands or trainers. Silicone can bond to silicone over time and leave the surface tacky. If your devices are silicone, Sliquid H2O or Sliquid Sassy are the ones to use with them.

It suits you if water-based lube runs out faster than you would like and you are tired of stopping to reapply, or if you want something creamier than a thin formula without moving to a full silicone product that needs soap to wash off.

It is not the one if your toys or devices are silicone. That is the single hard limit on this product and it is worth being blunt about rather than hedging. Use Sliquid H2O or Sliquid Sassy with silicone, and keep this for skin, glass, stainless steel and ABS plastic.

It is also not the one if you want the shortest possible ingredient list. Nine ingredients here against six in H2O.

A little goes further than you expect, so start smaller than you would with a water-based lube and add if you want more. Apply to yourself, to your partner, or to a non-silicone device. Because the silicone sits on the surface rather than absorbing, it keeps working for longer and you should not need to top up as often. Adding water will not reactivate it the way it does with a water-based formula, so if you want more, add more product. It rinses off skin with warm water and does not need soap.

What a hybrid lubricant does that water based cannot

Water-based lubricant absorbs. That is not a fault in it, it is what water does.

Silk gets around that by putting a small amount of dimethicone into a water base. Dimethicone is a medical-grade silicone that sits on the surface rather than soaking in, so when the water part has gone the silicone part is still there. In practice that means fewer interruptions and less reaching for the bottle.

What you gain, and what you give up.

You gain duration. This outlasts any of the water-based formulas in the Sliquid range, and it does it without the heavy feel of a full silicone lubricant.

You gain easy cleanup. Because it is mostly water, it rinses off skin with warm water. A pure silicone lubricant usually needs soap.

You give up silicone toys. This is the trade and it is not negotiable. Silicone lubricant and silicone devices can bond over time, leaving a tacky surface that is harder to clean properly. If your dilators, wands or toys are silicone, use

Sliquid Silk is a hybrid. It starts from the same purified water and plant cellulose base as Sliquid H2O, then blends in dimethicone, which is a medical-grade silicone, along with two emollient esters. Nine ingredients in total.

The difference you notice is duration. A water-based lubricant absorbs into tissue and evaporates, which is why it fades during a longer session. Dimethicone does not absorb. It stays on the surface, so when the water part of the formula has gone the silicone part is still working. You stop to reapply less often.

The second difference is texture. The emollient esters make it creamier than a plain water formula, closer to a light lotion than to a thin gel. People tend to either prefer that or not, and it is worth knowing which you are before you buy a 250ml bottle.

What it is not is a full silicone lubricant. Those last longer still but usually need soap to wash off and leave a slick on fabric. Silk rinses off with warm water because most of it is water.

No. Use a water-based lubricant with silicone devices instead.

This is the one real limitation on this product and it is better said plainly than hedged. Silicone lubricant and silicone devices can bond over time. The surface goes tacky, then slightly porous, and once that happens it is harder to clean properly and the device is effectively finished. Silk contains dimethicone, so it falls on the wrong side of that line for silicone dilators, pelvic wands, floor trainers and toys.

You will find sources that say a low-silicone hybrid is fine, and you will find people who have used one for years without a problem. That may well be true. It is also not a risk worth taking with a device you paid a few hundred dollars for and use on sensitive tissue, when the alternative costs thirty dollars and carries no risk at all.

Sliquid H2O and Sliquid Sassy are both pure water-based and safe with every silicone device. Keep Silk for skin, glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic and ceramic.

Noticeably longer, and that is the main reason people choose it.

The mechanism is simple. Water-based lubricant absorbs into tissue and evaporates. Silicone does not absorb, so it stays on the surface and keeps working after the water part has gone. In practice most people find they reapply Silk far less often than they do H2O.

There is a trade-off in how you top it up. With a water-based formula, a few drops of water reactivate what is already there. That does not work with Silk, because the part still doing the work is the silicone. If you want more, you add more product rather than more water.

Cleanup stays easy though, which is the point of a hybrid rather than a pure silicone lubricant. Warm water is enough on skin. A full silicone product usually needs soap and can leave a slick on sheets. Silk does not.

Yes. It works with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms.

The thing that destroys latex is oil, not silicone. Coconut oil, massage oil and anything else oil-based can weaken a latex condom within minutes. Silicone does not do that, and neither does water, so a water and silicone hybrid is condom-safe.

There is a practical reason a longer-lasting lubricant helps with condoms specifically. Friction is what causes condoms to break, and a water-based lubricant that has absorbed away partway through leaves you with friction you did not have at the start. Silk keeps working, which keeps the friction down.

Apply to the outside of the condom once it is on, and reapply externally if you want more. Avoid getting it on your fingers before you unroll one, because a slippery grip makes the roll harder to control.

Nine: purified water, plant cellulose, isopropyl palmitate, polysorbate 20, dimethicone, emollient ester, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid.

What they do: water and plant cellulose are the base, the same two that start Sliquid H2O. Dimethicone is the silicone, and it is the reason the product lasts. Isopropyl palmitate and the emollient ester give it the creamy texture and help it spread. Polysorbate 20 is the emulsifier that keeps the water and the silicone mixed rather than separating in the bottle. Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate are food-grade preservatives, and citric acid sets the pH.

Dimethicone is worth a word on its own because people are sometimes wary of silicone. It is the same ingredient used in barrier creams and scar gels. It does not soak into skin. It forms a thin film on the surface and stays there until you wash it off.

It is built on the same principle as the rest of the range, which is leaving out the ingredients people most often react to. No glycerin, parabens, propylene glycol, sulphates or fragrance. Sliquid describe it as hypoallergenic, and the pH sits at 4.1 to 4.4.

The dimethicone is the ingredient most people wonder about, and it is one of the less reactive things you could put on skin. It is used in barrier creams and scar gels precisely because it sits on the surface and does not go anywhere. If anything, the film it leaves reduces friction on skin that does not want any.

Two honest notes. The emollient esters, isopropyl palmitate in particular, are derived from palm oil, which matters to some people for sourcing reasons rather than safety ones. And if you have reacted to lubricants before and do not know which ingredient did it, a nine-ingredient hybrid is a harder place to start than a six-ingredient water formula. Sliquid H2O is the simpler starting point for working that out.

All three are made by Sliquid, all three leave out glycerin, parabens and propylene glycol, and all three are pH balanced and condom-safe. The differences are base, texture and duration.

Sliquid H2O is purified water, six ingredients, the lightest and the cheapest. It absorbs fastest and is safe with every device material including silicone.

Sliquid Sassy is the same water base with more plant cellulose, so it is thick rather than light. Also six ingredients, also safe with silicone. It was built for anal sex and works vaginally too.

Sliquid Silk is the hybrid. Nine ingredients, creamier than either, and it lasts longer than both because the silicone does not absorb. The cost of that is silicone devices, which it should not be used with.

The short version: if you use silicone toys, choose H2O or Sassy. If you want cushion, choose Sassy. If you want it to last and your devices are not silicone, choose Silk.

Yes, and it is one of the things it does better than a water-based formula. Water-based lubricant absorbs too quickly to be practical for a massage. Silk keeps working, and the emollient esters give it a spread closer to a light lotion than to a gel.

It also does not leave the heavy residue a pure oil or silicone massage product does, so you can go from massage to intimacy without stopping to wash anything off, and it is still condom-safe.

Two things to watch. Do not mix it with an oil-based massage product if condoms are going to be involved, because oil is what damages latex, and once it is on your skin it does not matter which bottle it came from. And keep it off silicone toys, the same as always.

It has no fragrance, so it will not compete with anything or irritate sensitive skin if it migrates.
